Sapient Corporation — Valley Forge, PA; Jersey City, NJ; Cambridge, MA
Senior Engineer; Technical Lead; Site Developer — August 1996–July 2001
Can one company change the world? Sapient was founded to at least change the way consulting and systems integration projects are done. By combining workshops, experience modelling, and rapid prototyping, along with fixed-time-fixed-price estimation, Sapient delivers projects which focus on the clients' actual business needs.
I joined Sapient in 1996, when the company had only 800 employees and three offices. Today, Sapient has grown to over 2,300 people in 18 offices in seven countries. In the five years I spent at Sapient I worked on a diverse set of projects for clients in the financial services and health care industries. Additionally, I built a technical R&D team tasked with selecting technologies, packages, and platforms to be used by other Sapient teams to deliver projects. My experience at Sapient has given me a deep understanding of how technology can be used to solve business problems. More importantly, I learned that a technological solution is not always the answer. Working with multi-disciplinary teams, I combined my technical skills with visual designers, ethnographers, and information architects.
